1903 Spyker 60hp 6 cylinder 8.8 litre 4 wheel drive |
Shown here is a Bosch DR6 dual ignition magneto and High Tension Switch/Trembler coil. I "created" this magneto from two donor mags combined with some specially made parts especially for the car shown below. It is a 6cyl 4wd racing car built by Spyker in 1903 and is the only one of it's kind in the world.
Designed in 1902 and built in 1903 this is considered to be the first purpose built 4 wheel drive racing car in the world and is certainly the first 6 cylinder 4 wheel drive in the world and the only example ever produced by Spyker. |
Pictured here after a test session this represents the culmination of several years painstaking restoration by a dedicated motor engineer with whom I worked closely in producing the desired ignition system. The car is now on display at Het Nationaal Automobielmuseum, Holland.
These pictures were taken in the paddock at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 1998. |
